Alternative Energy
Codding’s environmental investment philosophy in Community Fuels aligns with alternative energy. Community Fuels is a leading producer of high quality biodiesel and the largest in the State of California. Biodiesel is a nontoxic, biodegradable, renewable fuel that can be blended with petroleum diesel at any level. Biodiesel substantially reduces emissions compared to petroleum diesel. As a domestically produced and consumed fuel, biodiesel contributes to improved national energy security and increased economic development.
Community Fuels operates a state-of-the-art biodiesel production and research facility at the Port of Stockton in California. The facility is ideally situated to supply Western and Pacific fuels markets. Community Fuels biodiesel exceeds ASTM fuel quality specifications as well as the stricter requirements established by multiple major oil companies. The company operates an on-site laboratory and all fuel is certified for quality prior to release for sale.
Community Fuels is the first biofuel project to secure California industrial development bond financing and has been awarded grant funding through the United States Department of Energy, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the California Energy Commission, the California Employment Training Panel and the California Air Resources Board.

Codding uses 100 percent renewable power in its development of deeply sustainable mixed-use communities. While typical developments harm the climate by increasing driving distances and the use of fossil fuels, Codding builds restorative projects that help solve these problems. Sonoma Mountain Village is a walkable infill development with over one megawatt of solar photovoltaic power installed and a plan to add another three megawatts as the community is built.
By constructing homes and businesses with super-efficient walls, windows and appliances, Codding is able to profitably supply all of the building energy with on-site renewable power at Sonoma Mountain Village.
Codding doesn’t only focus on the construction of profitable solar-powered buildings. The company is engaged in changing laws in California to expand renewable power financing options and to make it legal to centralize residential solar power
