Founder and owner, Hugh Codding, has been pioneering his way through Sonoma County since 1930. Starting off as a contractor who built homes, Hugh Codding sold the "American Dream" a thousand square feet at a time. By 1950, he built Santa Rosa's first community shopping center, Montgomery Village.

Hugh and his savvy late wife, Nell Codding, made Codding Enterprises a leader in the Northern California retail industry. In 1962, Codding Enterprises built Sonoma County's first regional mall, Coddingtown and later constructed the Merced Mall with whom Codding Enterprises shares a 50% vested interest with actor, Paul Newman. As the building boom slowed in the 1980's, Codding Enterprises shifted its interest to Rohnert Park establishing many neighborhood centers, industrial/business parks and office properties.
